Long before Michael ever hosted his first writers round, he fell asleep one night with an idea that wouldn’t let go. He dreamed up a reality show centered on the real lives of Nashville songwriters — the chaos, the grind, the wins, and the struggles. He called it Livin’ The Write Life.

In January 2023, Michael was given the opportunity to host a once-a-month takeover at Big Jimmy’s on 2nd Avenue. At the time, Big Jimmy’s was known for a solid burger — not live music. And 2nd Avenue didn’t exactly have the foot traffic of Broadway. To be honest, his friends weren’t thrilled about driving downtown, paying to park, and possibly playing to an empty room.

Through a little negotiation, they secured discounted parking and a free meal for the performers. A handful of Michael’s friends agreed to take the chance — and Livin’ The Write Life officially came to life.

Michael stood outside on the sidewalk, personally inviting people in.
“Tired of hearing the same covers over and over? Come experience something truly authentic Nashville.”

Some people looked at him like he was crazy. But others walked in. Most stayed. And many thanked him on the way out.
“That was amazing.”
“Our favorite part of the trip so far.”

That’s when Michael knew he was building something special.

Word began to spread. Other venues took notice. What started as a small monthly writers round quickly grew into one of the world’s premier songwriter showcases. Today, Livin’ The Write Life has featured over 500 artists and songwriters, produces 20+ shows per month, and has expanded into a national tour. LTWL has hosted more than 25 #1 hit songwriters alongside some of the most exciting emerging talent in the world.

Along the way, Livin’ The Write Life became more than a show — it became a community. A network of songwriters and artists known simply as “The Tribe,” built on collaboration, support, and the belief that success is better when it’s shared.
